If someone can’t or won’t give you their license number, that’s a red flag. Unlicensed contractors can’t pull permits, and if something goes wrong, you have almost no recourse.
Small repairs or trim work usually takes a day or two. Custom built-ins might take three to five days depending on complexity. Deck construction typically runs one to two weeks, including any required inspections.
Exterior remodeling projects that involve carpentry—like replacing all the trim on a house or rebuilding a porch—usually take one to four weeks. Weather can slow things down, especially if we’re working with materials that need time to cure or if inspections get delayed.
We give you a realistic timeline upfront, not an optimistic guess. If we say two weeks, we mean two weeks. We also keep you updated if anything changes—permit delays, material backorders, or weather issues. Our goal is to finish on schedule so you can get back to normal life.
El Cajon’s climate is tough on exterior wood. You’ve got intense sun, low humidity most of the year, and occasional heavy rain. Regular untreated lumber will crack, warp, and rot faster here than in other parts of the country.
For decks, we typically recommend pressure-treated lumber, cedar, redwood, or composite decking. Composites cost more upfront but require almost no maintenance and won’t splinter or fade. For exterior trim, we use either rot-resistant wood species or PVC/composite trim boards that hold up to UV exposure without warping.
We don’t use materials just because they’re cheap or easy to source. We use what actually lasts in San Diego County’s climate. That might cost a bit more now, but it saves you from replacing everything in five years. We’ll walk you through the options and explain the tradeoffs so you can make an informed decision.
